June 29 Nikkola Newsletter

Issue 141

I often think about how I can make the Nikkola Newsletter more appealing for you. Of course, I hope the content itself makes opening the emails worthwhile, but I’ve been exploring other ways to make them more intriguing.

This week, I introduce a new section: a weekly subscriber poll. Each week, I’ll include a different poll and share the results the following week, along with some comments about the findings.

All you need to do is tap on your selection. I’ll include the weekly poll in any emails I send that week, and then share the results in emails the following week. I hope you find it to be kind of fun.

After you take part in the poll, read one of the articles below. Or two. Or three. Or all of them.😀 Not for my benefit, but for yours.

Enjoy this week's carefully curated articles.

The Ultimate PCOS Guide: Diet, Exercise, and Supplements.

You’ve probably heard of PCOS, right? But if you don’t have it, you might not really understand it. And even if you do have it, you might not understand what you can do to combat its symptoms. We’ll cover it all in this guide – nutrition, exercise, and supplements. We’ll even take a brief look at how conventional medicine addresses Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, the prevalence of PCOS may be as high as 20% among reproductive-aged women, based on broader diagnostic criteria. That’s right, 1 in 5 women of childbearing age could be affected by this syndrome. This figure has seen a stark increase from the estimated 5-10% only a few decades ago.

Now, if you’re thinking, “It’s just a hormone imbalance, right?”, let’s put things in perspective. PCOS isn’t just about hormonal fluctuations or cosmetic effects. It’s been linked with serious health conditions like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and endometrial cancer.

So, if you’ve been nonchalantly sweeping PCOS under the carpet, it’s time to pull it out and face it head-on.

Berberine: Blood Sugar, Body Fat and Other Health Benefits

Berberine belongs to a small group of natural products that have not only been used for thousands of years, but also are supported by significant amounts of research. If you’re not using it to support your health, you could seriously be missing out.

The first mention of a berberine-containing compound for medical use dates back to 200 A.D. Chinese medicine doctors have used it for treating neurological and digestive dysfunction for thousands of years.

You can extract berberine from goldenseal, yellow root, Amur cork tree, Chinese goldthread, prickly poppy, and Californian poppy.

Berberine capsules are bright yellow and taken at usual doses of 500 mg, up to three times per day. It has a strong safety record.

Like curcumin, it acts on the body through multiple pathways, including its effect on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK regulates metabolism in multiple organs as well as in your muscle tissue.

As an aside, I’ve taken 1000 mg at bedtime consistently for the past couple of years.

Torn Bicep Tendon? How To Speed Up Recovery After Surgery

Cinderella wasn’t referring to a torn bicep when they sang the 80’s rock ballad, “Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone,” but that song title is #truth when it comes to a ruptured biceps tendon. You don’t give much thought to how valuable your bicep is in everyday movement until it’s no longer attached to your forearm. In a fraction of a second, and with the sound of a gunshot, your arm goes from feeling strong and functional to weak and flaccid.

After getting over the disbelief, your mind moves to the reality of surgery and the recovery process. When done right, your recovery can return your arm to its previous strength and function. Done wrong, your recovery process can leave you with subpar strength, reduced range of motion, and a thick and ropey tendon layered in scar tissue.

“They were monsters with human faces, in crisp uniforms, marching in lockstep, so banal you don't recognize them for what they are until it's too late.” — Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

The United States government has a long history of experimenting on its citizens.

For instance, there was the US military’s secret race-based testing of mustard gas on more than 60,000 enlisted men. As NPR reports, “All of the World War II experiments with mustard gas were done in secret and weren't recorded on the subjects' official military records. Most do not have proof of what they went through. They received no follow-up health-care or monitoring of any kind. And they were sworn to secrecy about the tests under threat of dishonorable discharge and military prison time, leaving some unable to receive adequate medical treatment for their injuries, because they couldn't tell doctors what happened to them.”[i]

The U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Syphilis Study at Tuskegee was conducted between 1932 and 1972 to observe the natural history of untreated syphilis. As part of the study, researchers did not collect informed consent from participants and they did not offer treatment, even after it was widely available.

Christians, Jews, and Muslims Unite Against LGBTQ Curriculum in Schools

American Greatness

On Tuesday, parents from all three of the major religions united in a protest of a major school district’s efforts to teach sexuality and pro-LGBTQ material to their children.

As reported by The Daily Caller, the Montgomery County Public School Board of Education (MCPS) held a meeting to discuss a controversial policy that forbids parents from withdrawing their children from certain lessons if the parents consider them to be inappropriate. Anticipating a strong turnout by critical parents, MCPS announced a change to its policy on public board meetings, only allowing for “scheduled speakers, invited attendees, and other guests” to attend instead of the meeting being open to the public.

Outside the meeting on Tuesday, parents of all religions gathered in protest of the policy and the school board’s new restrictions on attending the meeting. Among the attendees were Christians, Jews, and Muslims. At one point, the protesters began chanting “We love God,” and “What do we want? Opt out. When do we want it? Now.”

Dr. Peter Hotez's Funding Linked to Controversial Chinese Military Scientists at Wuhan Lab

Kanekoa News

In a groundbreaking revelation, it has come to light that Dr. Peter Hotez, an esteemed vaccine researcher, has been entangled in a web of funding, collaboration, and research with Chinese military scientists potentially involved in the development of COVID-19. The intricate tale weaves together key Chinese military virologists and culminates in the smoking gun evidence surrounding COVID-19’s notorious furin cleavage site.

At the center of this narrative lies Dr. Hotez, a distinguished professor at Baylor College of Medicine, who secured a substantial research grant (R01AI098775) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) led by Dr. Anthony Fauci. This grant, amounting to over $1 million per year, supports Dr. Hotez's project titled "RBD Recombinant Protein-Based SARS Vaccine for Biodefense," with Dr. Shibo Jiang listed as a Principal Investigator.

AI and The Burden of Knowledge: A story of superior intelligence and possible obsolescence.

The Generalist

This is a fable about knowledge, how humans acquire it, and why we are outmatched by artificial intelligence – primarily thanks to our annoying tendency to die.

Knowledge is a mountain that we are trying to tunnel through. It does not matter that the mountain does not, cannot, end, that we will not break through limestone one day and luxuriate in the sunlight of omniscience. Some believe such things happen in death, but no one expects life to deliver them. Still, we dig.

Hero of the Left: Volodymyr Zelensky Cancels Elections Next Year in Ukraine if Country Is Still at War with Russia

The Gateway Punduit

Volodymyr Zelensky told the BBC he will cancel elections next year in Ukraine if the country is still at war with Russia.

In May 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed into law No. 7172-1 that will ban opposition parties and seize their property. The law targets opposition parties if they deny the armed aggression against Ukraine.
